Nebraska became the 37th of the 50 United States on March 1, 1867. The 911 code for the emergency system communications, was developed and first used in Lincoln, Nebraska. The state was once called "The Great American Desert" and is now nicknamed "Cornhusker State." In 1927, Edwin E. Perkins invented the powered soft drink Kool-Aid.
