Georgia became the 4th of the 50 United States on January 2, 1788. Georgia is known widely for it's ripe and sweet peaches which explains it's nickname as the "Peach State." The City of Savanna had the first steamship to cross the Atlantic. It sailed from Georgia. The state was named after King George II of England. Atlanta was the origin of the Coca-Cola invention in 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton.
